Green Lake Township Approves Mixed-Use Development
Traverse City, MI (April 28, 2008) — At the April Planning Commission meeting for Green Lake Township, the site plan for the Tom’s Interlochen Center Planned Unit Development (PUD) was approved. The 38 acre mixed-use development located on the southeast corner of US-31 and M-137 in Green Lake Township, Grand Traverse County, Michigan will provide retail, office, and restaurant uses and a grocery store. The plan includes a new Tom’s Food Market and adjoining commercial complex located on commercially-zoned property adjacent to the existing BP gas station and convenience store. R. Clark Associates Inc. (RCAI), Planners and Landscape Architects located in Traverse City, has been instrumental in providing master planning, site design, landscape design and entitlement services. RCAI’s award-winning team worked jointly with the firms of Cornwell Architects and EC&S Engineering, Inc. of Traverse City to develop the PUD project.
The proposed development facilitates a wide variety of retail and commercial uses to serve the needs of area residents and the central corridor of the project is intended to create a small town village character. Parking has been located behind buildings wherever possible and buffers between the proposed project and adjoining properties have been provided. A central open space is planned and intended to accommodate a variety of community events and activities.
A development pattern book which identifies the intended character of all project elements including architecture, landscaping, lighting, and signage will be created in order to guide the development of the project. The pattern book will create a higher design standard and institute a level of development character that exceeds township requirements.
